Tariff Guidance on Steel and Aluminum Products

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued the following guidance on the application of new tariffs on steel and aluminum products becoming effective on March 12:

GUIDANCE: Import Duties on Imports of Aluminum and Aluminum Derivative Products

GUIDANCE: Import Duties on Imports of Steel and Steel Derivative Products

Complete lists of affected products can be found here (aluminum) and here (steel). Tariffs will only be applicable to the aluminum or steel content of derivative articles. For proper classification, commercial invoices will need to state clearly if the article is steel or aluminum. If the article is not 100% steel or aluminum, the value and net weight of the steel or aluminum content must be given.

Steel importers will be required to provide product Melt and Pour information for subject articles as outlined in the relevant CBP guidance. Aluminum importers will be required to provide product Smelt and Cast information for subject articles as outlined in the relevant CBP guidance. Additional charges will apply for line-by-line calculation of content values and/or weights.

OTS will continue to monitor these developments and will provide updates accordingly. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your OTS representative for more information.
