Further Tariff Hike Issued on Imports from China

U.S. President Donald Trump has amended the previous executive order announcing reciprocal tariffs on articles imported from China by increasing the tax rate from 34% to 84%. The rule became effective at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on April 9th, keeping the same timeline as the original Executive Order 14257.

The newly issued E.O. also increases duty rates applicable to articles that previously qualified for De Minimis exemption moving through the postal system. Effective at 12:01 a.m. EDT on May 2, such goods will be subject to a 90% ad valorem duty rate, or $75 charge per postal item containing goods noted in section 2(c)(ii) of E.O. 14256. The cost per postal item will increase to $150 on June 1 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
